Bruins host Sabres aiming for 11th win in a row
Hockey Betting Lines
01/03/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The blazing Boston Bruins will aim for their 11th straight victory when they welcome the Buffalo Sabres for this afternoon's Northeast Division battle at TD Banknorth Garden.
The Bruins, who lead the NHL with 62 points, picked up consecutive wins Nos. 9 and 10 by sweeping the Pittsburgh Penguins in a recent home-and-home series.
Boston will now aim for its first 11-game winning streak since rattling off 13 straight wins from February 23-March 20, 1971. The club record for consecutive victories is 14 and was set during the 1929-30 campaign.
The Bruins outscored Pittsburgh by a combined score of 9-4 in the home-and- home set. After recording a 5-2 decision in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, the Bruins came back two days later to notch a 4-2 home victory over the Penguins.
Marc Savard and P.J. Axelsson each had a goal and an assist to help Boston earn the New Year's Day win at the Garden.
David Krejci and Milan Lucic had a goal apiece for the Bruins and Krejci extended his point streak to 10 games -- the longest current stretch in the NHL. The 22-year-old Czech forward has six goals and 11 assists during the run and has also recorded a point in 19 of his last 20 games.
Manny Fernandez made 30 saves in the win and improved to 13-2-1 this season. Tim Thomas, who is 16-3-3 this year, is expected to be back between the pipes today.
Boston, which is playing the second test of a six-game homestand today, has not lost at home since October 23 and has won 14 straight as the host. The Bruins' club record of 20 straight home wins was also set during the 1929-30 campaign.
The Sabres, meanwhile, began 2009 on a positive note as they recorded a 4-1 winning decision in Toronto on New Year's Day. Derek Roy had two goals and an assist to lead Buffalo to victory at Air Canada Centre.
Jason Pominville had two goals while Drew Stafford and Thomas Vanek each had two assists for the Sabres, who had lost four of five coming into the game.
Ryan Miller made 27 saves in the win and improved to 16-10-4 this season.
The Sabres, who trail Boston by 21 points for the Northeast Division lead, are 8-6-3 as the visiting team this season.
Buffalo has held its own against the Bruins this year, as the two clubs have split four meetings so far. The Sabres have taken four of six overall in the series, but has dropped two straight and four of six in Boston.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.
NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.
Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.
Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.
