Phillies, Astros replay earlier washout

Baseball Betting Lines

04/23/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia Phillies go for their third straight win this evening, when they host the Houston Astros in a makeup game at Citizens Bank Park.

This contest was originally scheduled for April 15 in what would have been the finale of a three-game series, but it was postponed due to rain. The clubs split the other two meetings.

The Phillies won four of six against the Astros last season after losing 12 straight to the club dating back to the start of the 2004 campaign.

Philadelphia won back-to-back games for the first time this season by taking the final two of a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend, including Sunday's 9-3 victory.

Freddy Garcia notched his first victory with the Phillies, while Ryan Howard returned to the lineup and hit a two-run homer.

Garcia (1-1) made his second start of the season and allowed just two runs on four hits in five-plus innings. The veteran right-hander struck out three and did not walk a batter.

Howard returned to action after missing the last three games with a sprained ligament in his left knee and finished with three runs batted in.

Chase Utley went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, three runs scored and an RBI in the victory. Aaron Rowand finished 2-for-4 and extended his hitting streak to 10 games for Philadelphia.

The Phillies turn to right-hander Adam Eaton for tonight's game. Eaton is 1-1 with a 6.62 earned run average this season and earned a no decision last time out, after allowing four runs on four hits in six innings against Washington in what was eventually a 13-inning loss for the Phillies.

Eaton is 2-1 with a 4.05 ERA in four career outings against Houston, but has not faced the club since September of 2003 while with San Diego. He took the loss in that outing after allowing five runs on seven hits in six innings.

Tonight's game is the first of seven straight at home for the Phillies, who next welcome Washington to Citizens Bank Park. Philadelphia is just 1-5 at home on the season.

Houston counters with right-hander Chris Sampson, who makes his third start of the season. Sampson began the year in the bullpen and made one appearance before making two straight starts, both wins.

He bested the Cubs with five shutout innings on April 10 before allowing just two runs and five hits over seven innings against the Reds last Wednesday. The pair of runs he allowed were his first of the season, moving his ERA to 1.20.

He has twice pitched against the Phillies in his career, one start and one relief outing, and has yet to yield a run over 5 2/3 total innings.

Tonight's makeup game extends Houston's current road trip to nine games in four different cities. The Astros, who next head to Pittsburgh, fell to 3-2 thus far on the trek with Sunday's 4-3 setback to Milwaukee.

Houston starter Roy Oswalt (3-1) gave up four runs on seven hits in seven innings. He walked two and struck out two.

Morgan Ensberg had two hits and an RBI for the Astros, who had won seven of their last eight games coming in.

Ensberg extended his hitting streak to 10 games, tying a career-high, while Adam Everett and Lance Berkman each had an RBI for Houston in the loss.

Pro Football Odds : NFC SOUTH BETTING ODDS

NFL Sports Betting

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North. Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.

Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.

Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.

The Patriots will make NFL betting fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
