Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Nassau County voters have rejected a plan that would build a new arena for the New York Islanders. In a public referendum vote Monday, 57 percent of residents who turned out voted 'no,' according to an update from the Nassau County Board of Elections. The update, as of 12:18 a.m. (et), had 78,967 of 139,068 people voting 'no' with more than 89 of precincts counted. Smith has appeared in seven career NHL games, all with the New York Islanders during the 2008-09 season, and has scored one goal. The North Vancouver native played 68 games last season with Syracuse and Springfield of the American Hockey League and tallied 20 goals with 23 assists. He has 92 goals and 192 points in 282 career AHL games.
